Police have arrested a hardcore Maoist and seized 3,000 gelatin rods, 7,000 detonators, some carbines and a big consignment of ammonium nitrate on Saturday from near a village in Bihar's Rohtas district, an officer said.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police Sandeep Lande said that police were tipped off that some Maoists had gathered at Chunhatta village under Nauhatta police station and planning for a big operation in the district.
When a police team raided the identified place, armed Maoists opened fire.
The exchange of fire continued for over an hour. One Maoist was arrested while others managed to escape.
Lande said police are investigating the case and declined to give further information.
