Describing the deadly Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh "barbarous", Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the incident has shaken the democratic fabric of the country.

"It is a barbarous incident which has shaken our democratic fabric. The dastardly attack on a Congress convoy by Maoists must be condemned in the strongest possible terms," Dikshit said.

The cabinet observed a two minutes silence on assassination of the leaders and others.

Maoists Saturday evening ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders in a heavily forested area in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, killing 28 people. Among those killed were state Congress chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, party leader Mahendra Karma and former legislator Uday Mudliyar.

The injured included former union minister V.C. Shukla.
