Over 200 members of Youth Congress Sunday protested outside the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) office here for its Chhattisgarh government's "failure" to provide security to Congress leaders in the state, who were ambushed by Maoists.
"We are protesting against the attack on our leaders. The (Chhattisgarh) state government has failed to provide security to our leaders," a member said.
The protestors, carrying banners in their hands, reached at the BJP office on Ashoka Road around 2 p.m. and raised slogans against the Raman Singh government in Chhattisgarh.
Policemen were deployed and the area was barricaded to prevent any incident.
On Saturday, a large number of heavily-armed Maoists attacked a Congress party convoy in a forested area of Chhattisgarh's southern Bastar area. They carried out a landmine blast and then opened fire, killing many, including state unit chief Nand Kumar Patel, former leader of the opposition Mahendra Karma and former legislator Uday Mudaliar. Party leader and former union minister Vidya Charan Shukla was seriously injured in the firing.
