A Maoist camp in a forested area of Odisha was destroyed Sunday and a number of arms and weapons were seized, police said.

Based on an intelligence input about the presence of the rebels, security forces raided the forest near Raighar in Nabarangpur district.

Following the gun fight with the security forces, the rebels escaped.

There was no report of any casualty from either side. The forces destroyed the camp, Inspector General of Police Yashwant Jethwa said.

The arms and explosives seized include eight land mines, three country-made guns, 70 detonators, five kg gun powder, Maoist uniforms and literature, he added.

Maoists are active in more than half of the state. The district of Nabarangpur, about 570 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar, is one of their strongholds.
