Maoists Wednesday blew up a government building in Odisha's Malkangiri district. The attack occurred around 3 a.m., when no one was inside the building, police said.
About 50 rebels stormed the Padia village, about 700 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, around 3 a.m., and blasted an old building that housed the block office, Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh told IANS.
Padia village is close to the state's border with Chhattisgarh.
The rebels also set fire to important official documents and records before fleeing.
The rebels are active in more than half of the state's 30 districts. Malkangiri is considered a Maoist stronghold.
