More than 7,000 people will run in a marathon organised by the Delhi Election Commission here Nov 10 to motivate educated people to vote in the Dec 4 assembly polls, authorities said.

The marathon will begin from the Ambedkar stadium and will culminate at the election commission office at Kashmiri gate.

"Though it is a part of the Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity to woo more and more people to vote, we want to ensure that at least the educated people vote," said an official from the Delhi Election Commission.

"More than 40 percent of the educated population does not vote. How can it be expected that the illiterate people will vote," the official said.

"Even if they do not want to vote for any of the candidate in their constituency, they have the option to vote against the candidates by pressing the "NOTA" button," he said.

"The voter turnout in the last Delhi assembly elections was not even 60 per cent. This time, we are trying our best to make it more than 80 percent", he added.
