Marijuana, valued at Rs 2 crore in the international market, was seized in Imphal and the driver of the truck in which it was carried was arrested, the police said on Wednesday.

A combined team of police officers and the Narcotics Control Bureau officials, led by Imphal East District Police Superintendent K. Kabib, confiscated the contraband which was to be taken to other states. The truck has been impounded.

"We have registered a case and the arrested driver is being interrogated to find out details about others involved in the racket, the modus operandi, and the destination," said Kabib.

The police said they got a tip-off about the marijuana being transported. The truck, driven by Mohammad Imran Khan, was intercepted at Andro Market.

On seeing the police team, others in the truck are believed to have fled, Kabib said.

"There were 107 packets of high quality marijuana, each weighing 15 kg. The packets were concealed in the body of the truck."

More arrests are expected, the police said.
