Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki on Saturday launched new variants of its hatchback models WagonR and Stingray with auto gear shift (AGS) technology, among a slew of other new features.

The company has priced the WagonR between Rs.4.64 lakh and Rs.4.76 lakh, while Stingray models will come from Rs.4.86 lakh to Rs.4.98 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

"WagonR will be the third brand from our portfolio to get the acclaimed auto gear shift technology," said R.S. Kalsi, executive director marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki.

"By introducing the AGS in a popular car like WagonR, we aim to democratise the AGS technology, so that more customers can enjoy the convenience of automatic gear shift without compromising on fuel efficiency and at an attractive price."

The company said that the AGS transmission will be available only in the VXi variants of both models.

In addition to the ASG, driver and co-driver airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) will be offered, as an option across all variants, including base variants, of WagonR and Stingray.

The company's AGS transmission is currently offered in Celerio and Alto K10.

The AGS in new models will be mated with the one-litre K-next engine. The AGS variants of both these models offer a mileage of 20.51 km per litre.

Since its launch in 2000, nearly 16.95 lakh units of WagonR have been sold. The hatchback is available in petrol and CNG (compressed natural gas) fuel options.

The Stingray variant was introduced in 2013-14 to the WagonR portfolio.
