BSP chief Mayawati on Tuesday said Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's statement that RSS training inspired the Prime Minister and him for the surgical strikes across the Line of Control "is most unfortunate".

The statement is most unfortunate and an attempt to take away the credit from the army, the Bahujan Samaj Party President told the media here.

"It is sad that attempts are being made to score political brownie points over the (September 29) surgical strikes though it is an act done by the brave army," the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said.

Parikkar on Monday said in Ahmedabad that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ideology inspired Prime Minister Narendra Modi and him to carry out the September 29 surgical strikes across the Line of Control.

Mayawati also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of engineering defections from other political parties as it had lost confidence on its own leaders.

"The BJP has lost the plot in Uttar Pradesh and is facing the prospect of a total rout in the state. Hence, it is indulging in everything possible," the Dalit leader said.

Mayawati claimed that the people of Uttar Pradesh will repose their faith in the BSP in the 2017 assembly elections.
