The Border Security Force (BSF) has seized medicines worth over Rs.32 lakh while they were being smuggled out to Bangladesh from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, an official said on Monday.

The seizure was made on Sunday night from the area under Petrapole border outpost by troopers of the 40th battalion.

"Challenged by a BSF team, some people who were carrying a big box and moving towards Bangladesh fled leaving behind the box containing a large quantity of medicines," said a BSF officer.

The medicines included nine different types of injections and six types of tablets and are valued at Rs.32,30,000.

The seized medicines have been handed over to the customs officials.
