The Australian city of Melbourne is set to feature on a new edition of the iconic board game Monopoly.

Melbourne will join Sydney, Perth and Adelaide as Australian cities that have had local streets and attractions swapped for the well-known London-based ones, Xinhua news agency reported.

Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle made the announcement on Tuesday along the banks of the Yarra River, a potential square for the board, and said the game will hit the shelves in time for Christmas.

Locals will be given the chance to vote on which landmarks will make the final cut, but Doyle has indicated that the top spot, usually reserved for Mayfair on the traditional board, will most likely go to the high-end shopping strip Collins Street.

Melbourne landmarks such as Federation Square, Flinders Street Station, the Great Ocean Road and St. Kilda beach are all set to feature on the board.

The voting is open for a month before the game goes into production later this year.
