New research suggests women who have hot flushes during menopause, could also suffer memory issues.

The study, published in the journal Menopause, indicates a direct link between the menopause and memory, reports dailymail.co.uk.

Researchers at the University of Illinois and Northwestern University conducted the study, for which participants aged between 44 and 62 were sampled. Each experienced at least 35 hot flushes a week.

They were asked to complete questionnaires about their menopause symptoms, mood and memory.

The results revealed that the women who had the most hot flushes performed worst on the memory test. Another key finding was that if their hot flushes were worse, the period of their memory loss was also longer.
