Mercury rises by four degrees in Himachal

The mercury continued to rise across the hills of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, recording a rise of three to four degrees in the maximum temperature, which, in some areas, crossed 40 degrees Celsius.

Shimla, situated at an altitude of 2,130 metres, was warm at 26.7 degrees Celsius.

"The maximum temperature remained above average in the state due to lack of rains," an official of the meteorological office here told IANS.

He said Una town, located on the Punjab border, was the hottest at 40.6 degrees Celsius.

Dharamsala in Kangra district recorded a high of 30.4 degrees Celsius, while it was 35.8 degrees in Sundernagar in Mandi district, 34 degrees in Bhuntar in Kullu district and 24.8 degrees in Kalpa town in Kinnaur district.

 

Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti district recorded a low of 7.6 degrees Celsius.

The Met department said dry weather would prevail across the state till Tuesday.
