German Chancellor Angela Merkel and representatives of the European Union will visit Turkey next week, her spokesman said.
Merkel will travel to Gaziantep on April 23. European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans would accompany Merkel, Al Arabia quoted her spokesperson Steffen Seibert as saying on Friday.
The visit comes amid a diplomatic row between Germany and Turkey. Ankara has requested that German comedian Jan Boehmermann be prosecuted over a sexually crude poem he recited about Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
