At least 25 Egyptian policemen were killed and three others injured when a militant group attacked two buses carrying the security personnel in Egypt's North Sinai Monday.
The buses were carrying the policemen to their homes from their base in Rafah city for their vacations when the attack took place.
There were contradictory reports about how the attack took place.
While Xinhua reported that unidentified gunmen stopped the buses and made the policemen get down, lined them up and shot them dead, Al Jazeera reported that the militants fired rocket-propelled grenades at the buses.
Xinhua quoted a senior Egyptian security official as saying that military helicopters were transferring the wounded to hospital for treatment.
Further details were awaited.
