Legendary athlete Milkha Singh on Wednesday announced his association with a multi-sport fitness programme -- Milkha Surefit.

The programme aims at identifying and nurturing the sports potential of children in the age group of 4-17 years, according to a release.

Milkha Surefit is a one-of-its-kind programme which uses scientifically developed and tested criterion to identify the right sport fitment for a child on the basis of various physical tests and examinations.

This identification programme is further bolstered with an intensive fitness programme which will helps the child reach his maximum potential in the designated sport.

"We wish to bring a system into place so that all children have a greater chance of athletic success whether competitive or recreational," the 79-year-old said.

Under this programme, children will be scientifically tested and guided on which sport to follow as per their biological markers," Milkha, the first Indian male athlete to win an individual athletics gold medal in the Commonwealth Games, added.

"In sports, it is very important to provide the right guidance at the right age. We look forward to a country which will lead to healthier, fitter kids and hopefully a lot more talented sportsmen," Milkha, who represented India in the 1956, 1960 and the 1964 Olympics, said.

"This will also complement their academic performance as a healthy mind sits in a healthy body."
