Minister reviews ongoing projects in Varanasi

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday reviewed the progress of various highway projects in and around Varanasi which are aimed at a major overhaul of transport infrastructure in the city.

During his one-day visit, the Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways also visited the multi-modal terminal hub being constructed at a cost of Rs 169.70 crore under the World Bank-aided Jal Marg Vikas project on the Ganga river here.

The construction work of the terminal is expected to be completed by November, an official statement said.

At present there are seven ongoing national highway works worth Rs 5,260 crores in Varanasi city. In addition, two road projects with the estimated cost of Rs 5,764 crores are in the pipeline.

 

Mandaviya said that national highways were the backbone of the infrastructure of a country and his government was making all efforts to improve it.

In order to make available quality generic medicines at affordable prices, Mandaviya also inaugurated a Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra at Ramarepur Pahariya in Varanasi.
