Ministry of Defence to hold interactions with TN industries

The Union Defence Ministry will be holding four more interactions in Coimbatore, Salem, Chennai and Tiruchirappalli with industries there in connection with the proposed Tamil Nadu Defence Quad, officials said on Tuesday.

In a statement the Ministry of Defence said the interaction with the local industries will be held in Coimbatore on March 5, Salem on March 7 and Chennai on March 10.

The date for the interaction at Tiruchirappalli would be announced later, the statement said.

These interactions will involve senior officers from the Ministry of Defence, representatives of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Bharat Earth Movers Ltd and Ordnance Factories.

 

These interactions are being organised with the active participation of the local Small Scale Industries Associations and the state government representatives.

The first interaction with the local industries was held at Hosur on February 26.

According to the statement, work for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Tamil Nadu Defence Quad has been initiated by the Department of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence. The Department will engage a top consultancy firm to draw up the DPR for the Quad.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Budget 2018-19 announced setting up of two Defence Production Corridors.

The central government has decided to locate one in Tamil Nadu.

The corridor, which is organised as a quadrilateral will extend from Chennai, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchirappalli.
