City football giants Mohun Bagan club secretary Anjan Mitra on Wednesday withdrew his nomination for contesting the upcoming elections.
Club president Swapan Sadhan Bose will thus contest the election without any opposition.
Bose's son Srinjoy, who has filed his nomination for assistant general secretary said: "Perhaps he (Mitra) has chosen friendship over an election fight... and so he has stepped aside."
"Their relation dates back to the days when they're coming from Howrah to watch Mohun Bagan play. But nobody knows what has happened that it has soured now."
The father-son duo are thus set to take over the reigns from Mitra's panel on October 28.
