Missionaries from the northeastern state of Mizoram who were working in Nepal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Sikkim when the massive earthquake occurred on April 25 are safe, a church body said here on Thursday.

The Presbyterian Church of Mizoram Synod urged all churches across the northeastern state to hold prayers on Saturday night for the victims of the quake, which devastated Nepal and also affected various parts of India, its secretary Rev. B. Sangthanga said in a release.

The church members would also pray for the relatives of the victims and for the rescuers so that they can perform their tasks efficiently.

The 7.9-magnitude quake killed over 5,700 people and caused massive devastation in Nepal. At least 78 people were killed in India.
