A mob of around 300 persons on Wednesday attacked an apartment complex here claiming that a maid working in one of the flats there had been kept prisoner by her employer.

According to the residents of the complex, on Tuesday evening Harshu Sethi and his wife confronted their Bangladeshi maid with stealing money.

The woman ran from there and took refuge in another flat where she worked. She spent the night there, Punit Tomar, a resident, said

However, the maid's husband on Tuesday night filed a police complaint that his wife was missing.

On Wednesday at around 5.30 a.m. the husband, along with his friends and neighbours gathered outside the apartment complex and tried to enter the premises by force. After two hours they barged inside the complex.

Superintendent of Police A.K. Singh said: "We've received a complaint from the husband, but the residents of the apartment have not registered any complaint yet."

The mob allegedly smashed the glass walls of the security house cubicle at one of the gates of the apartment complex. They also allegedly attacked and vandalised the Sethis' flat on the ground floor.

"We locked the Sethis inside their bathroom to save them from the angry mob," Tomar, 32, said.

He alleged the mob was shouting "Rape the woman, kill the child" as they tried to enter the Sethis house.

The Sethis were rescued by the police.
