Mumbai, April 22 (IANS) International telecom services provider and a unit of Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group, Reliance Globalcom, Monday said that Saudi Arabia-based mobile communications and technology provider Mobily has become its first customer to activate the newly launched 'Hawk' submarine cable system in the Mediterranean Sea.
"The Middle East is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and Reliance Globalcom has a very strong presence in the region, serving all the large telecom operators," said Rory Cole, chief operating officer, Reliance Globalcom, in a statament.
"Our association with Mobily is yet another testimony to our leadership position in delivering leading edge communication solutions in the Middle East region."
According to the company, Mobily has signed a 15-year Indefeasible Right of Use (IRU) with Reliance Globalcom, for purchase of multiple 10Gs (gigabit services) of international bandwidth capacity, connecting Saudi Arabia to Europe and the United States.
Reliance Globalcom had activated its 'Hawk' submarine cable system in Egypt earlier this month and integrated it with the company's network to meet the growing customer requirements for high-speed, reliable and cost-effective solutions in the Middle East and India.
The company that time had said integration of the networks will enable additional capacity of 20 terabits in the Mediterranean region as well as allow 'Falcon' to carry the same capacity between Europe, India and Middle East.
The cable system was built by Reliance Globalcom last fiscal was to initially set up the world's first Mediterranean gateway and hub at Cyprus.
The system successfully carried 180 Gbps (Gigabits per second) of data during the cable cut off Egypt and India recently.
The system has been designed with two routes- one connecting Marseille in France and Alexandria in Egypt and another local route, with a spur to Yeroskipos in Cyprus, which complementing Reliance Globalcom's Falcon and FEA cable systems.
