A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Kashmir on Saturday.
"A moderate intensity earthquake was recorded here at 2.29 a.m. today (Saturday)," Met Office director Sonam Lotus told IANS.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in Pakistan.
No loss of life or damage to property has been reported so far.
Kashmir is situated in an earthquake prone region and devastating temblors have occurred here in the past.
