Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted the people of Mizoram on statehood day.
"My best wishes to the wonderful people of Mizoram on their statehood day. May Mizoram scale new heights of progress in the years to come," an official release quoted the prime minister as saying.
However, no official function was held on Saturday to celebrate the day.
Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a union territory. The mountainous state, which shares an 828-km border with Bangladesh and Myanmar, became the 23rd state of India on February 20, 1987.
