Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted the people of South Korea on their Liberation Day.

"The need for closer ties between India and Korea has never been stronger. We consider Korea as a crucial partner in India's economic modernization and seek to further improve trade relations with Korea," Modi tweeted.

He described South Korea a pillar of democracy in Asia and said its rapid progress strengthened the vision of an Asian century.

Modi said his visit to South Korea was fruitful and enhanced cooperation in many spheres.

South Korea's Liberation Day commemorates victory over Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945.
