After many years, the Indian opposition has got a face in Narendra Modi and this will create "a saffron storm" in national politics, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray said Sunday.

"Until now, barring (former prime minister) Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Indian opposition parties lacked an acceptable 'face' before fighting elections," Thakceray told the party mouthpiece "Saamana".

"This time, people have a choice... A strong party and a good face in the form of Modi. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has no cause for worry."

On the other hand, the Congress was is shambles, he said.

"Earlier, right from Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress had a 'face'. This time, they are not willing to bring forward Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi. They don't have a face.

"But the opposition parties are united under Modi and confidently marching ahead," the Shiv Sena chief said.

Thackeray answered questions on a variety of topics including some about the recent defections from the party.
