Modi meets Afghan and Sri Lankan presidents

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met new Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the sidelines of the Saarc summit here Wednesday.

While meeting Ghani, Modi told him that "India is committed to strengthening relations with Afghanistan", according to a tweet by ministry of external affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.

During his meeting with Rajapaksa, the prime minister thanked him for pardoning and sending back five Indian fishermen who were sentenced to death for drug smuggling in Sri Lanka.

"PM @narendramodi thanks Prez @PresRajapaksa for pardoning and sending back 5 Indian fishermen earlier this month," the external affairs ministry tweeted.
