Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to the 1999 Kargil war martyrs, and said every village, town and city played a role in the conflict.
"Each and every Indian soldier fought bravely. I pay my respects to the soldiers who, without worrying about their lives, fought for the country," he said in his monthly "Maan Ki Baat" radio programme.
"The Kargil battle was not just fought on the borders... Every village, city and town made a contribution."
India observes Kargil Diwas on July 26 to salute its soldiers who fought against Pakistani troops and guerrillas who sneaked into Jammu and Kashmir in 1999.
