Montenegrin members of parliament (MPs) on Monday started the first session of the new parliament elected on October 16, although Montenegrin media reported that almost half of MPs were absent out of protest.
At the beginning of the session, MPs were presented with the report of the State Electoral Commission, according to which the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) won 36 MP seats in the new parliament of 81 seats, Xinhua news agency quoted Montenegrin parliament as saying in a press release.
The MPs were said to be missing in protest over alleged irregularities in the elections, results of which they did not recognise, as they believe the elections were not free and democratic.
The constitutive session of the new government was attended by Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic, as well as representatives of state institutions.
