Rabat, May 29 (IANS/MAP) King Mohammed VI has inaugurated a day care centre for Alzheimer's patients here.

The new centre was launched by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in Ennahda district of Rabat on Sunday. It will allow integrated and adapted care for patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The setting up of this centre is an integral part of a programme of action carried out by the foundation to support the national medical sector. The new institution has both medical and social support centres.

The medical centre provides care in general medicine, psychiatry, psychomotricity, neurology, speech therapy and physiotherapy.

The social support centre houses workshops for the sick (cognitive simulation, artistic mediation), and caregivers (training and awareness).

The new institution is intended to be a pilot centre. Its expertise will help train nursing staff for other similar centres.

The facility was set up as part of a partnership between the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and the Rabat prefectural council.
