MoU inked for setting up cancer preventive centre

National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research (NICPR) on Wednesday inked an MoU with All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) to set up a Center of Integrative Oncology at NICPR-Noida under a joint venture project, said an official statement.

The MoU was inked by Abhimanyu Kumar, Director- AIIA and Ravi Mehrotra, Director- NICPR in the presence of Ayush secretary Ajit M. Sharan and Secretary of Department of Health Research Soumya Swaminathan.

According to the government, the MoU would pave the way to carry forward the ongoing bilateral dialogue and facilitate collaboration with National Cancer Institute, USA.

"The main aim should be to reduce the incidence of cancer for which preventive aspects with the strengths of Ayush systems should be explored," said Swaminathan.

 

She said that the collaborative research should aim at developing traditional medicine as adjuvant therapy to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy.
