The Supreme Court on Friday asked a petitioner seeking a CBI probe into the killings of two BJP workers in Purulia district of West Bengal to approach the Calcutta High Court.

Declining to entertain the plea, a vacation bench of Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and Justice Ashok Bhushan asked lawyer Gaurav Bhatia to move the high court.

"Go to the high court," Justice Goel told Bhatia as he sought an early listing of his plea for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and security for the victim's family.

As the lawyer told the court that the family was facing threats and police has not registered an FIR, the bench again asked him to move the high court.

The top court was moved by the father of Dulal Kumar, one of the dead.

The body of 32-year-old Dulal Kumar was found hanging from a high-tension tower in Dabha village. Prior to that, the body of 20-year-old BJP worker Trilochan Mahato was found hanging from a tree in Balarampur area.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress, miscreants, mafia and police of the killings. The Trinamool has denied the charges.

The state government has handed over the probe to the CID.
