A municipal official was arrested here on Monday by the Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta Police while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a peon, an officer said.
Vijay Shankar Trivedi, Chief Municipal Officer of Tikamgarh, was caught red-handed at his official residence, said J.P. Verma, Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Lokayukta Police, at Sagar.
He was released on personal bond later.
Trivedi had asked for a bribe of Rs 1,75,000 from Ram Prakash Bilgaiya, a peon in the municipality, to promote him. It was decided that the first instalment would be paid on Monday.
Bilgaiya informed the Lokayukta Police and Trivedi was caught in the act.
