Nearly 1,000 women who aspired to join the Madhya Pradesh Police but were ousted during recruitment due to lesser height warned of an agitation on Friday in case the relaxation announced by the Chief Minister was not extended to them.
These women candidates had cleared all other recruitment hurdles but were eliminated from the process due to less-than-prescribed height.
"We were declared ineligible at the last moment since our height was three cm less than the 155 cm prescribed for women candidates. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced relaxation in height criterion, which had filled us with enthusiasm," women candidates' leader Preeti Sharma told IANS.
Informed sources said that Chouhan had announced the relaxation in height in October 2017 for the future recruitments while the present process was started before that point in time. Hence, the state government is yet to take a decision regarding these women candidates.
