Expressing concern at the shortage of teachers in the country, members of parliament at a meetng here on Thursday said India needed six lakh teachers every year.
"We need six lakh teachers every year, in the next 20 years this number will be 20 times more so where are we heading to get the number filled," Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MP from Hisar Dushyant Chautala said.
"There is a need for education policy in every state," he said at the Education Leaders Summit 2015 here.
Samajwadi Party member of the Rajya Sabha Neeraj Shekhar said: "Shortage of teachers is a problem. Teachers are outsourced, how will the children learn with a temporary teacher."
Shekhar said: "Research and PHDs should be encouraged in Indian institutes."
More than 300 school principals and domain experts attended the summit.
