Spanish woman tennis player Garbine Muguruza received the Bronze Medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit awarded by the country's government at a ceremony held here on Thursday.
Spanish Minister of Education, Culture and Sports Inigo Mendez de Vigo presided over the ceremony to honour Muguruza for her "experience in the world of tennis."
The minister said that "recognition" must be given during the career of players as a "sign of affection" of all the people who have enjoyed the achievements of Muguruza in recent years, after she was a finalist in the last Wimbledon tournament and a semi-finalist at the WTA Finals.
The world No.3 was happy to receive the award and thanked the president of Higher Sports Council for the love always shown to her.
