Spanish woman tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza withdrew from her China Open first match against Czech Barbora Strykova on Monday due to physical issues.
The World No.1 was one set behind 1-6 and trailing two games to Strykova in the second set when she decided to withdraw after calling the trainer, reports Efe.
"It's very tough; I got a virus in Wuhan. I couldn't perform today," Muguruza, who made 16 unforced errors in the 27-minute first set, said.
"It's the easy way to think: 'don't go on the court'. I want to feel like giving the last chance, going on the court, just hit (a) few balls, see how I'm going to feel, try to turn things around," she added.
In the second round, Strykova is set to play against German Julia Gorges, who defeated American Madison Brengle 6-4, 6-3.
