Afghan Taliban Wednesday said the report of release of Mullah Baradar from a Pakistani jail was baseless.
The Taliban claimed that Baradar, the outfit's former second-in-command, was still languishing in a Pakistani detention centre, Xinhua reported.
Zabihullah Mujahid, who claims to speak for the Taliban, said: "Mullah Baradar is still in Pakistani jail and any report about his release is baseless."
He added that Mullah Baradar's health is deteriorating in the Pakistani jail.
According to media reports, the Pakistan government set free the Taliban commander.
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai said Baradar's release could speed up the national reconciliation process in the conflict-ridden country.
