Eighth-seeded Andy Murray of Britain defeated No.9 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 to book a quarterfinal meeting with Serbia's world No.1 Novak Djokovic at the US Open here.
It was Murray's first top 10 win for more than a year. Murray has now beaten Tsonga 10 times in their 12 meetings after Monday's victory, reported Xinhua.
Murray is 8-12 in his head-to-head series against Djokovic.
Earlier, top seed Novak Djokovic beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1, 7-5, 6-4, reaching a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the 22nd straight time.
"I'm very glad obviously that I had so many consecutive quarterfinals of Grand Slams," said Djokovic.
"It says that I do value these tournaments the most and try to always play my best tennis in them. Obviously it motivates me for the future to continue that streak."
It was the eighth straight year for the Serb to make into US Open last eight.
