A musical tribute to late legendary singer Shamshad Begum was organised here recently with singer Simrat Chhabra rendering some of her popular hits.

Simrat paid musical homage to Shamshad Begum, who died April 23. She was 94.

One of the first female playback singers of the Hindi film industry, the Padma Bhushan awardee was known for clarity in her voice. "Kabhi aar kabhi paar", "Leke pehla pehla pyaar", "Kahin pe nigahen kahin pe nishana" and "Reshmi salwar kurta jaali ka" are some of her evergreen numbers.

In between Simrat's performance, glimpses from Shamshad Begum's life were also showcased through slides and recorded interviews with those who knew the singer very well.

Simrat also launched her website at the event, where Sakha Awards 2013 were also given out by Padma Shri singer Shanti Hiranand to distinguished personalities for their respective contributions in various fields.

The event was jointly organised by Pecoba (Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh Old Boys Association) and Sakha.
