Muslims in Kerala Tuesday offered special prayers for the victims in Gaza.

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, which was celebrated Tuesday, thousands of Muslims dressed in new clothes were seen heading towards mosques. Special prayers were offered for the people suffering in Gaza.

Panakad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal, chief of the Indian Union Muslim League, made a plea to the Muslims not to have lavish celebrations during the day as their brethren are suffering in Gaza.

In Kochi, the rains played a spoiler, forcing people to pray inside halls and mosques while in other parts of the state, people prayed sitting on grounds and in open spaces.

Muslims in Kerala account for more than 24 percent of the 33 million population.

The state government has declared a two-day holiday on the occasion of Eid.
