Paris, May 8 (IANS/AKI) Over 90 percent of Muslims voted for the victorious Emmanuel Macron in France's Presidential run-off, according to a survey published by Catholic daily La Croix on Monday.

The survey by Ipop showed 92 percent of Muslims cast their ballots for Macron, who defeated anti-immigrant National Front leader Marine Le Pen on Sunday with 20.75 million votes against her 10.64 million.

A record 12 million people abstained or spoiled their ballot papers in Sunday's run-off in a sign of deep disaffection among voters with the choice of candidates.

Nearly two-thirds (62 percent) of voters defining themselves as Catholic and 71 percent of practising Catholics voted for Macron, who also picked up 67 percent of Protestant ballots, according to the survey.

The online survey interviewed 4,330 electors selected from a representative sample of 4,572 people with a margin of error of 0.7-1.6 points.
