Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani Monday emphasised on strengthening cooperation with the Unesco across all its areas of competence.
In a meeting with Unesco Director General Irina Bokova, the minister highlighted India's achievements in education for all and the new policy initiatives to consolidate on these achievements.
"She (Irani) also emphasised on strengthening cooperation with the Unesco across all the areas of Unesco's competence," the ministry said in a statement.
Bokova, who is on a three-day visit to India on the invitation of Irani, appreciated the initiatives taken by India in education and other sectors.
She spoke on the emerging role of India as a leader in different areas of socio-economic development, particularly for sustainable development.
The top UN official also appreciated the achievements of India in education, culture, heritage, oceanography, communication and natural sciences.
Bokova further commended the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and said it will have long-term implications on the quality of life of the people.
