My last opportunity to set right Akalis' wrongs: Amarinder

Punjab Congress chief, Capt. Amarinder Singh on Friday said that the upcoming assmebly elections in the state would be his last election and also his "final opportunity to set right the wrongs" of the ruling Akali Dal.

"This will be my last election. I don't want to fight elections anymore," said Singh during an interactive session at the Hindustan Times Summit here in which Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal was also present.

"I think time has changed. India is now 70 per cent under the age of 40 and the new generation must come up.

 

"This is my last opportunity to set right the wrongs of the Akali Dal. I have informed this to the Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) and Vice President (Rahul Gandhi)," he added.

Taking a swipe at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, he told Sukhbir Badal: "Your father has just made a statement that he wants another 10 years in politics. He is now 94, he'll be 104 by then. Don't you think he should give time to the youngsters now.

"It's time we make way for the youngsters now," he said.
