Myanmar will introduce tram to run in Yangon in December this year to tackle traffic congestion in its biggest city and former capital, sources with ministry of rail transportation said on Tuesday.
In the first phase, the electric train will run along an existing route on Strand Road Pabedan township to Htawlikwe in Ahlone township and from Pansodan to Linsadawn in the second phase.
The 5.63-km railroad will be built by Yangon city development committee in cooperation with port authority and Asia world company.
The tram will run at 30 to 40 km per hour using five megawatts of power provided by Yangon Electricity Corporation that will erect electricity supply poles 50 metres apart from one another.
