Uruguayan football club Nacional won their first victory in the Copa Libertadores, beating the Peruvian Real Garcilaso 4-0 in the fourth round of Group F here.

Wednesday's result catapulted the Uruguayan team to the second place in its group, four points behind Santos, reports Efe.

The four goals that led to Nacional's triumph were made by Sebastian Rodriguez, with a free kick, Leandro Barcia, Guzman Corujo and Gonzalo Bergessio.

Three-time Copa Libertadores champion (1971, 1980 and 1988), the home team jumped onto the court determined to win the match and aware that a defeat would leave them virtually out of the competition, hence from the first minutes they attacked the rivals.

However, much of the first half of the game was under Garcilaso's control, although Nacional goalkeeper Esteban Conde managed to save several attempts from the visiting team from hitting the goal.

In the 40th minute Sebastian Rodriguez executed a free kick with the bottom of his right foot directing the ball into the net of Garcilaso's goalkeeper Luis Ortiz.

Guzman Corujo followed Rodriguez to make the second goal in the 79th minute with a header.

In the 85th minute came the third goal of Nacional. This time from Leandro Barcia, who received the ball from Sebastian Fernandez's pass and subsequently sent it into the box.

The final goal was also a header, by Gonzalo Bergessio in the 88th minute, after the Peruvian team lost its control of the area.

Nacional will face Santos on May 1 in a game that will be decisive in determining their future in the league.

In Group F, the Uruguayan team currently has 5 points, and Santos 9.
