Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu mourned the deaths of over 100 passengers in a train accident near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
At the inaugural ceremony of the 47th edition of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Indoor Stadium here in Goa, Naidu termed the accident a "really sad incident" and asked the audience to observe one minute's silence.
"A sad incident has happened. A major railway accident has taken place in Uttar Pradesh. More than 100 citizens have lost their precious lives," Naidu said.
According to officials, more than 100 people were killed and around 150 were injured when 14 coaches of the Indore-Patna Express derailed near the city of Kanpur around 3.30 a.m. on Sunday.
