Namibia beat Cote d'Ivoire 1-0 in their campaign opener in Group B of the African Nations Championship football tournament here.
Vetunuavi Hambira secured the three points for Namibia with a header in the 92nd minute, reports Xinhua news agency.
Sunday night's victory saw tournament debutants Namibia climb to the top of their group.
Before the match, Namibia coach Ricardo Mannetti said that there has been no national league in the country for two years, which made it difficult to form a team since the competition is for players who are based in their respective countries.
Mannetti said the players did well to make history against all odds. He also stressed that the African Nations Championship is a wonderful platform for showcasing Namibian football.
