Narsingh's failing dope test raised in RS

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Wednesday raised in the Rajya Sabha the issue of wrestler Narshingh Yadav failing a dope test, saying he was a victim of a "conspiracy".

"There has been a conspiracy due to which the player failed the dope test. It has come out that something was mixed in the dal... There is a clause that if a player fails in dope test, and (he was given banned substance) without his information he should be given a chance," he said.

Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien said the member had raised a "relevant point".

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the issue was "serious", adding that he will ask the concerned minister and department to take action.

 

Yadav, who failed the dope test, has alleged that his food was spiked. According to reports, the intruder who spiked the food has been identified.

Yadav had won the gold in the men's freestyle 74 kg category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games here.
