National ice skating championship from Jan 3-4

More than 100 skaters will participate in the 2015 National Ice Skating Championship to be held at the ice skating rink iSKATE, located on the sixth floor of Ambience Mall here Jan 3-4, the Ice Skating Association of India (ISAI) announced Monday.

"The event will witness more than 100 Indian skaters in the age group of below 10 years to 19 years and above from the international and national circuits, namely United States, Russia, New Zealand, Telengana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, competing for glory in figure skating," ISAI said in a statement.

"The international participants are Indian citizens who wish to bring the culture and popularity of this sport prevalent in their current home countries to India. This exposure to international talent will help lift the performance standards of all the participants."

 

Some well known athletes participating in the event are former champions Anup Kumar Yama, Avani Tekriwal, Nikhil Pingle, Pratham Tated, Aanya Singh and Ishita Kapoor.
